Shared Earth began in 1986 after founder, Jeremy Piercy, finished school and travelled to India. Whilst there, Jeremy came face to face with the imbalance of wealth in the world and became determined to help change it. Fair Trade was the obvious answer so he set up a small shop in York selling a mixture of handmade and recycled products from Asia, Africa and South America. Since then, Shared Earth has grown into the UK’s largest wholesaler of Fair Trade crafts and recycled products and remains at the forefront of promoting a fairer, more sustainable world. .
One of our responsibilities as a Fair Trade company is to help producers be aware of fashion trends so that their product ranges do not become dated or obsolete. We take this responsibility seriously.
Experienced artisans can adapt their skills to new ideas and techniques if they get assistance to understand what we are looking for. The Shared Earth design team works with artisans around the world to ensure they are aware of trends on products, materials, colours, and design
What can we do?
We still have time to prevent this catastrophe – but we need to act now!
We can play a huge part in this. We can examine our energy, eating and travelling patterns, for instance. And what type of products are we buying? Are raw materials sustainable? Are fossil fuels a significant factor in production, packaging and transportation?
Our mission at Shared Earth is to tackle the climate crisis and create a fairer, more sustainable world. Recycled and sustainable products are the basis of our website.
Shared Earth UK is tackling one of the most difficult issues of all for an importer. We are the first UK business in the gift, fashion and homeware sectors to say that despatch of all our products from overseas to our warehouse in the UK is 100% carbon-neutral, resulting in CO2 emissions of ZERO.
The vast majority of our products are sustainable, or recycled, and we run on Fair Trade principles too. By buying them, you can feel proud that you too are doing something to create a fairer, more sustainable world.
Our mission is to tackle the climate crisis and create a fairer, more sustainable world.
Our commitment to sourcing alternatives to plastic means our range of eco-friendly and sustainable products is growing - rice husk coffee cups, bamboo socks, jute shopping bags, and many more. We're also constantly sourcing more recycled and upcycled products. We don't like waste, so many of our products are made from leftover materials that would otherwise be sent to landfill.
