Give Back This Festive Season with Barnardo’s Charity Christmas Cards

Did you know the Christmas card tradition actually began in Britain? The very first was sent way back in 1611 to King James I of England and his son, the Prince of Wales. Fast forward a few hundred years, and sending cards has become a key tradition of the festive season.

There’s something truly special about sitting down with a cup of tea, picking up a pen, and writing out your well-wishes. In a world of quick texts and online messages, that personal touch means so much. And this year, that small gesture can go even further by helping provide warm clothing, hot meals, and support for children, young people and families across the UK.

At Barnardo’s, our charity greeting cards are proudly printed in the UK, made from responsibly sourced paper, and use vegetarian inks. They’re also 100% recyclable – so they’re kind to the planet as well.

Give Back with Every Card

When you choose Barnardo’s charity Christmas cards, you’re helping change lives.

Every pack you buy supports our vital work with children, young people, and families across the UK. From providing warm clothing to making sure a child doesn’t go to school hungry, your purchase makes a real difference.

Here’s how your purchase helps:

  • Every £3 christmas card pack could help buy a child warm socks or gloves to stay warm this winter.
  • Every £4 christmas card pack could help buy a nourishing meal for a child.
  • Every £5 christmas card pack could help buy breakfast for a child for 1 week including cereal, milk, and fruit.

How to Write a Christmas Card Message

Once you’ve chosen your perfect charity Christmas cards, it’s time to write your message.  A few warm words can make someone’s day:

  • “Wishing you peace, joy, and happiness this Christmas.”
  • “Thank you for your kindness and friendship throughout the year.”
  • “Your support means the world - have a wonderful Christmas & New Year.”

And remember, a personal touch - like a shared memory or a little family update - turns a simple card into a keepsake.

FAQs about Charity Christmas Cards

1. What are charity Christmas cards?

Charity Christmas cards are festive greeting cards sold to raise money for good causes. At Barnardo’s, all profits from the sales goes directly to support children, young people and families across the UK.

2. Where can I buy charity Christmas cards?

You can browse and buy our Christmas cards online through our Barnardo’s online shop, or pop into one of our stores to pick them up in person. Use our Store Finder to locate your nearest Barnardo’s shop.

3. Can Christmas cards be recycled?

Most Christmas cards can go straight into your household recycling as long as they’re made entirely from paper. However, cards with glitter, foil, sequins, ribbons, plastic decorations, or musical parts can’t be recycled because they contaminate paper recycling. If your card has non-recyclable embellishments, simply tear off the decorated section and recycle the plain part - or reuse the rest for crafts or homemade gift tags.

4. When should you send Christmas cards out?

To make sure your cards arrive in plenty of time, aim to post them by the first week of December (or earlier if possible). This gives your loved ones time to enjoy them throughout the festive season - and lets you relax knowing your cards are sent before the last-minute rush.
