Barnardo’s partners with Bright Secure Recycling to turn end of life textiles into dog beds

Did you know that Barnardo’s Sustainability Team has teamed up with Bright Secure Recycling to give our end-of-life textiles a new lease on life as Recodog pet beds? 

Recodog creates high-quality, eco-friendly pet beds from all kinds of recycled textiles. Every bed is carefully made using shredded fabric made from textiles and clothing which could no longer be sold in Barnardo’s stores. We send these end-of-life textiles to Bright Secure Recycling, who use the shredded fabric to create comfy, durable products that are great for both pets and the planet. 

The process is hands-on, with zips, buttons, and tags being removed from garments and recycled separately. The remaining fabric is then shredded down and used as stuffing. Even the bed’s outer cover is made from 75% recycled materials! 

This amazing circular economy partnership not only cuts down on textile waste entering landfills, but also generates extra funds for Barnardo’s to support children, young people, and families across the UK.
